President's Letter

2007 will be an exciting year for Saab and Saab owners. Saab Automobile USA takes the lead in the U.S. for the 60th Anniversary of Saab celebrations. Anniversary edition Saabs have become a tradition with the marque and Saab has served up 9-3 and 9-5 60th Anniversary Editions which according to Jay Spenchian, Saab USA General Manager, are a great way to mark the occasion, and they provide an excellent and a unique value to customers.” (See the article on page 34, issue #285- ed.)

The Saab Club of North America and the Great Lakes Saab Club will be celebrating the anniversary with the Silver Jubilee Saab Owners’ Convention. The Great Lakes Saab Club has been working diligently on the planning for the convention for some time now. They have an excellent organization committee under the leadership of Jim Laman, the club president. As previously announced, SOC07 will be held August 23-26 in Southeast Michigan. The SOC07 Committee has zeroed in on the city of Troy for the convention HQ. As well as the usual convention events, Saab USA will be "rolling out" a significant new 2008 production vehicle. I recall the introduction of the new 9-5 at Waterville Valley, New Hampshire at SOC97. Saab brought two 9-5s and really wowed the crowd with a spectacular unveiling. I can only imagine what is in store for us at SOC07. As plans are developed, we will be providing details on the Saab Owners' Convention Website: http://www.saabconvention.org and the SCNA Website: http://www.saabclub.com

In the last few months we have received requests from members asking for information on starting a local Saab club. One of our members, Alan Fein, Vice President of the Saab Club of Tampa Bay was kind enough to provide excellent guidance that can be found on page 39, issue #285. I hope this will be helpful to others who want to start a local Saab club.

Lester Ewing, who has provided this club with invaluable leadership and direction, has swapped positions on the Board of Directors with me to ensure the forward progress of the club. From all of us on the SCNA Board, have a happy and prosperous Saab New Year.

President, SCNA
