Convention planning is fully underway. By now, you should have visited www.saabconvention.com to register for the 2013 Saab Owners' Convention presented by eEuroparts.com located in Albany, NY August 15-18. We are very excited to have eEuroparts.com as our title sponsor this year. Matt Moran and his team promise to have a large display on hand for everyone attending. They will also have Pagano Motorsports and possibly Rally-Ho to share their rally Saabs with us. Albany Speed Shop/Albany Saab Shop will also be a convention sponsor this year and we are looking forward to the cars they will have on display.

Joining us again this year is Hagerty Insurance and State Of Nine. Dan DeVliger at State of Nine has recently launched his online “hangout” where customers and fans can participate in all sorts of Saab chat and discussion. Stay tuned to State of Nine’s Web site to see when the next hangout chat session will occur, maybe you can even ask Dan what new items he will have on display at the Convention! Performance Automotive, a Saab Parts North America service point in Pittsfield, MA is also joining us. John Fiorini is planning something fun for all attendees – follow us on Facebook for these and other Convention updates.

Lastly, on behalf of the club’s board of director and our membership, I want to personally thank SCNA club member, board member, and President Annette Adams for her time in helping to keep the club active, including all of her involvement with SOC's of the past. Annette’s own road has taken her on a new adventure and we wish her all the best.

Would you like to be involved with SCNA? Consider adding your name to the ballot for the upcoming board seats that will be available for vote on August 17th – President, Vice President, and Director positions will be available.

See you there!

The holidays are now behind us and cabin fever is quickly turning into spring fever. Many parts of the country where our members are scattered have experienced mother nature teasing us with unseasonably warm weather and then reminding us that winter isn't quite just over yet. But, if you are like me, you are thinking about getting your classic Saab out of hibernation or giving your daily driver a good wash and wax. My thoughts are also focused on the 2013 SAAB Owners Convention in August. I am pleased to inform all of you that this years event will be held at The Desmond Hotel & Conference Center in Albany, NY, August 15-18. Planning is underway by the events committee, like us on facebook to keep up to date on progress and registration opening!

News on the Saab Parts front is that owners of 2010-2011 are now able to obtain warranty coverage through the Saab Secure program (pdf download). This is great news for owners of vehicles that were the last to roll off the lines in Sweden and provides peace of mind that these cars will be on the roads for years to come. Saab Parts North America is continuing to add to their inventory every month and have secured 179 certified service points around the country. I continue to be amazed at the dedication and commitment of Saab leadership to ensure that customers and fans of the brand continue to receive support.

A few days remain for the "Saab Spirit Lives On" exhibit at the Simeone Auto Museum in Philadelphia (February 22 - March 17). Bill Jacobson, owner of Sports Car Service in Delaware and a perennial Saab Club of North America supporter, will have his collection on display with Saab models ranging from 1956 to 2011. Visit www.simeonemuseum.org for event details.

As we come into Spring and out of the winter blues, remember to give oncoming Saab drivers a wave or thumbs up, it's a small gesture to keep that SAAB Spirit alive and something that only our community can do to put the "whee" smile on every drivers face.

I hope the holiday season was good for all of you. Things with Saab Parts North America continue to move forward. Parts availability is getting better every month. Current progress is an agreement with GM for all of the GM supplied components that have been difficult to obtain. Also of note is the industry leading 24 month or 24,000 mile parts warranty on all Saab parts purchased through Saab retailers.

News from Sweden seems to be that there is progress with NEVS and time will tell what the future holds for them and for the future of Saab automobiles. It appears the hiring process has begun, so things are definitely moving forward. Let’s hope things progress quickly!

Membership in Saab Club of North America is more important than ever during this time. Keeping the Saab community connected and intact will only help all of us as we move into future years of Saab ownership. Ask your Saab friends if they are members and if they are not, encourage them to join. Through your support the club will be able to do more to support the Saab community.

Things in the Saab world are beginning to settle down. Most of the remaining vehicles at the port will have been sold by the time of printing and parts fulfilment at Saab Parts North America is getting back to normal. From what I understand, agreements with most if not all of the domestic suppliers have been signed and parts are arriving from Sweden daily. There are exciting things coming from Saab Parts North America and we will do our best to keep you posted.

NEVS is employing over 100 people at this time and we will all have to wait and see with the future brings for this innovative new company. Many of the key players in this new venture are names familiar to the Saab world and it makes me hopeful for the future of the company.

Heading into the winter season in Iowa brings the need to prepare the fun vintage vehicles for storage during the snowy and salty winter months and the installation of snow tires for those daily driver vehicles. I always hate to see them all being put away for the winter. Hoping everyone in the Saab community has a wonderful holiday season and keep those Saabs rolling!
