First of all, I’d like to thank the membership for the vote of confidence in electing me to the position of club president. I will work hard to live up to your expectations and help this club grow. I thought I’d take a few lines to “introduce” myself and let you know a little more about me.

My husband Marty and I are the owners/operators of two Saab exclusive dealerships in Iowa. While not the largest dealerships in the country, we’re proud of the contribution we make to the brand and the Saab community. I have three children who have been very supportive of my involvement with the Saab Club and Saab Owners' Conventions. You may have seen them on site helping with events. I am also a Saab enthusiast. You may think that would be a given due to what I do for a living, but that isn’t always the case. I truly enjoy Saab and believe in the brand.

Wow! What a wonderful turnout at the Saab Owners' Convention 2011! Thanks to the hard work of the board members, we had a great convention, spectacular speakers and thankfully lucked out in the weather department. Special thanks to all of our sponsors and advertisers, without their help, this event would not be possible.

Listed in this issue are all the winners of the awards for People’s Choice and Concours. Congratulations to all. I personally know the hard work involved in getting cars ready to show. The support of Saab Cars North America was fantastic from the Heritage Collection vehicles, guest speakers, test drives, round table….the list goes on and on. Thank you.

Preparation for Saab Owners' Convention 2012 is underway and we will be posting information as it becomes available at Your suggestions and feedback are very important, please pass that information to anyone on the board via the Club's Contact Page.

In this my last letter as president of SCNA – The Club, I want to thank all of the dedicated members for their tremendous support of our efforts to keep SOC’s going!

In particular, I want to give thanks to Lester for his time on the Board and wish him well in all his future endeavors. In addition, thanks to Aaron for all his hard work on the websites. Despite the fact that Aaron is not staying on the Board, he will continue to provide web support as our Webmaster. Last but not least, my friend Ed. He has been a pillar of strength for many of us and I am pleased to say that he is going to continue his support of the club by staying on as a Board member – thanks my friend!

I give a hearty welcome to Annette and Daryle as our newest club officers. They are truly representative of the spirit that keeps our club going. Please give them the support they need to complete the tasks they have ahead of them!

Lastly, I bid a fond farewell to all my friends at Saab. Thank you all so much for being there for us over the years!

Happy Saabing!!!

As we approach the next SOC and the election of new Board members and officers, I would like to encourage you to consider becoming a Board member. There are quite a few of you who frequent and actively participate in SOCs each year. There is no doubt about the dedication that you all have to the brand; and, sharing and learning about all aspects of it during convention activities. It is challenging to run a club such as ours by remote control but the rewards of having our owners’ convention each year make it worthwhile. Please join us and help ensure the success of future SOCs. You will find information on the election in this issue of NINES on page 34.

We gave an opportunity via the web to get input for this year’s convention by surveying past convention participants. Those results were compiled by Seth Hedstrom (the survey guru). Based on the survey results, the convention committee incorporated changes in the planning to better suit the desires of the membership. Daryle Powers, SOC co-chair, has more info on SOC2011 in his update on page 34.

Just another reminder that Saab Cars North America is offering a $500 certificate to SCNA – The Club members who are buying a new Saab. We continue to be grateful to Saab Cars for this offer. Please show them that we are thankful by buying a new Saab and using this great membership value!

On behalf of the membership of The Saab Club of North America we wish Jan Åke Jonsson the very best in his retirement from Saab. Thank you for all you have done!

PS: Shameless Plug: The Saab Owners’ Convention 2011 will be held from August 18th through the 21st at the Hilton Parsippany, NJ. Information is on the SOC website.

President's Letter - July/August 2011

Reprinted from Nines Magazine

As my term as President winds down I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your support! The other Board members and I have been overwhelmed with enthusiasm in the past few months because of the increase in membership which we are sure was driven by Saab Cars North America’s and Victor Muller’s $500 certificate towards the purchase of a new Saab. We are particularly pleased that this has brought into the membership those that had no prior affiliation with the brand or the club. If you are new, I would like to welcome you and tell a little about us.

Our primary function is to bring the membership together once a year at our Owners’ Convention. Recent issues of Nines, our website and Facebook page have covered this year’s SOC in significant detail. The dedication that our members have for the marque is reflected in the tremendous support that we have had for many years from Saab in the US and from Sweden. The company has provided guest speakers from Sweden including; Victor Muller, CEO Spyker Cars, Jan Ake Jonsson, COO Saab Cars, Erik Carlsson, the famous rally champion; and, Peter Backstrom, Curator, the Saab Museum Trollhattan; and, from the US headquarters the president/managing director and senior staff members ie, Michelle Tinson, Commutations Director and John Libbos, Product Manager. Also, we have had many of the cars from historic Saab collection on display as well as concept cars and even new car releases for the first time in North America (original 9-5). The company also provides a large amount of material from their parts warehouse for us to sell at the “Parts Tent”. The SOC includes driving events, a Dyno, the car shows, seminars, guest speakers and awards banquet. The most fun is had just by being with Saab friends that have been developed through the years. So please join us August 18th through the 21st at the Hilton Parsippany, NJ. Information is on the SOC website and on page 12 of this month's Nines Magazine.

In addition to attendance at the annual convention, I encourage all club members to join and participate in local club events. You will find these clubs listed here. One of the most recent local events that our members participated in was the famous and successful Saabs @ Carlisle conducted by the Central Penn Saab Club. We are proud to be affiliated with them.

I sincerely hope that the support that we have seen from Saab owners Worldwide during the resurgence of the brand is infectious and our new members come to love Saab as many of us have through the years.

Thanks to the Board members who did a great job preparing for this year’s SOC!!!!!!
